iMap and missionary Jerry Daniels have partnered together to help promote a new concept in missions called Regional
Ministry Centers. The idea has come from the work of a Kenyan Pastor in Isiolo, Kenya, Frances and Lucy
Mwaniki.
The Mwaniki's have a ministry to the people of Isiolo that includes a church, orphanage, feeding center,
substance and addiction abuse counseling, AIDS, STD, and FGM counseling, and a Bible Institute. All of these
ministries have been facilitated by Pastor Mwaniki and the people of his church. They currently house six orphans
in a small building on their property, but would like to expand this.
The need for help for the children of Isiolo
is great. They also have a feeding center that is currently feeding 50 hungry children each day and 100 per day on
the weekends. The center is facilitated and run completely by the church members.
Pastor and Mrs. Mwaniki have both been trained in counseling, and have an extensive counseling and substance abuse
ministry to the community run through their community center. They have seen miraculous results in repairing shattered
lives, which has gained them unusual acceptance and popular support in this otherwise hostile community.
All of the work done through this center is done in the name of Christ and is used as a means to get the gospel to as
many people as possible. The work of the Mwaniki's has been greatly expanded because of the facility they have
been able to move into.
The "Saltlick" facility is used as a community center that houses the Substance abuse
counseling center, the orphanage, the church, the Bible Institute, the Kitchen for the feeding center, and a small
apartment for Pastor Mwaniki and his family. This community center is a critical part of the success of this ministry
and is necessary for the future ministry to continue. There are plans for a mission's medical clinic to be run out of
this center in one of the open rooms that is available.
To the church of Sardis was written "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can
shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name." - Rev 3:8
I pray that we will all take the opportunity to be a part of the ministry that is being opened to us by the Lord for Northern Kenya.
